Conductor Speaks "Fossils" | Carnival of the Animals
In this video, conductor Morihiko Nakahara discusses Camille Saint-Saëns’s movement “Fossils.” Although not centered on a specific animal, Saint-Saëns cleverly incorporates material from his earlier composition Danse macabre, using the xylophone to evoke the dry, rattling sound of skeletons. The video concludes with the South Carolina Philharmonic performing “Fossils” from The Carnival of the Animals.
