Lesson Progression
- Bellringer - Students will brainstorm and/or research information about Boeing corporation either individually or as partners Students will list all of their answers on the document “Boeing Brainstorming Activity.” (found in the resources tab). This can be done digitally, printed, or whole-group and writing their responses on large chart paper. The students will share their answers by both submitting their responses digitally and orally.
- The teacher will introduce the next activity by reading the overview of the video, “Kristina Mauger, 787 Production Engineering Director | Let's Go! CAREERS” located https://www.knowitall.org/video/kristina-mauger-787-production-engineering-director-lets-go-careers. The teacher will share the document, “Kristina Mauger, 787 Production Engineering Director Learning Activity” (located in the Resources tab) with the students (this can be done digitally or printed). The teacher will review the activity so the students know what to expect when watching the video. The students will complete that activity and submit to the teacher. The teacher will use “Kristina Mauger, 787 Production Engineering Director Learning Activity Answer Key” (located in the Resources Tab) to check for understanding and provide feedback to the students. The teacher should discuss the answers and video with the class.
- The teacher will introduce the next activity by telling the students that this will focus on another type of engineer at Boeing. The teacher will introduce the next activity by reading the overview of the video, “Vijay Soni, Mechanical Systems Design Engineer | Let's Go! CAREERS” found https://www.knowitall.org/video/vijay-soni-mechanical-systems-design-engineer-lets-go-careers. The teacher will share the document, “Vijay Soni, Mechanical Systems Design Engineer Learning Activity” (located in the Resources tab) with the students (this can be done digitally or printed). The teacher will review the activity so the students know what to expect when watching the video. The students will complete that activity and submit to the teacher. The teacher will use “Vijay Soni, Mechanical Systems Design Engineer Learning Activity Answer Key” (located in the Resources Tab) to check for understanding and provide feedback to the students. The teacher should discuss the answers and video with the class.
- Culminating Activity - Students will complete a Venn Diagram comparing production and mechanical engineering using the Google Slide Presentation graphic organizer, “Logistics Comparison” (located in the Assessment tab). The students need to come up with at least three similarities and three differences between the different positions. Students should share their responses with the teacher when finished, this can be done digitally or manually. The teacher should check for understanding and provide feedback to the students. The answers may vary so check for accuracy.
Teacher Notes
If you are using a cloud file storage system (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or iCloud), I would recommend having the students create a digital folder for this lesson to save their notes and student work. It will help with organization.
