Let’s Go Careers Nephron Pharmaceuticals
Students will learn about the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals by studying Knowitall videos. The students will learn about different careers and the laboratory at Nephron Pharmaceuticals. The students will complete learning activities about the videos. As a final assessment, the students will be required to create a presentation comparing the roles of a Chief Scientific Officer and the Vice President of Manufacturing Operations.

- Bellringer - Students will visit the Nephron pharmaceuticals website at https://www.nephronpharm.com/. They will locate 5 facts about Nephron and list those on the document “Nephron Website Review.” (found in the resources tab). This can be done digitally, printed, or whole-group and writing their responses on large chart paper. The students will share their answers by both submitting their responses digitally and orally. The teacher will review the answers with the students and make sure they understand what Nephron is and the types of careers available.
- The teacher will introduce the next activity by reading the overview of the video, “Nephron Pharmaceuticals 360 | Let's Go! CAREERS” located https://www.knowitall.org/video/nephron-pharmaceuticals-360-lets-go-careers. The teacher will share the document, “Nephron Pharmaceuticals 360 Learning Activity” (located in the Resources tab) with the students (this can be done digitally or printed). The teacher will review the activity so the students know what to expect when watching the video. The students will complete that activity and submit to the teacher. - Culminating Activity - Students will complete a presentation or essay summarizing how the role of a scientific officer and vice president of manufacturing operations are related. The students can use Powerpoint or Google Slides to create the presentation. They must cite the Knowitall videos in their presentation. The teacher will share the document “Nephron Pharmaceuticals Presentation” with the students so they understand the expectations of the presentation (located in the Assessments Tab). The teacher will use “Nephron Pharmaceuticals Presentation Teacher’s Edition” to assess the students’ knowledge and to provide feedback to the students. (located in the Assessment Tab)
Teacher Notes
If you are using a cloud file storage system (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or iCloud), I would recommend having the students create a digital folder for this lesson to save their notes and student work. It will help with organization.
