- The teacher will review the essential question with the class so that the students know the lesson’s expectations.
- The teacher will introduce the video by reading the description on the the webpage, Sean O'Neal, Fire Station Captain | Let's Go! CAREERS - https://www.knowitall.org/video/sean-oneal-fire-station-captain-lets-go-careers
The teacher will share the document, “Sean O’Neal, Fire Station Captain Learning Activity” (located in the Resources tab) with the students (this can be done digitally or printed). The teacher should discuss the answers and video with class (the discussion should relate back to the essential question).
- The teacher will introduce the next video by reading the description found beneath the video, Michael Roberson, Fire Station Engineer | Let's Go! CAREERS - https://www.knowitall.org/video/michael-roberson-fire-station-engineer-lets-go-careers

- Culminating Activity - Students will research the steps and requirements one must complete in order to become a firefighter. The students will then create a presentation or essay detailing the proper procedures of becoming a firefighter. The presentation must include accurate and correct information from reputable sources. The students can create this presentation using digital software like Powerpoint or Google Slides depending on your school’s digital software. Share the document, “How to Become a Firefighter Presentation,” (located in the Assessment tab) with the class digitally, if possible (if not, you can print out this document and distribute manually), so the students know their expectations. The teacher needs to use the document, “How to Become a Firefighter Presentation Teacher’s Edition” (located in the Assessment tab) to assess the students’ presentations and provide feedback.
- The teacher will revisit the K-W-L chart from the beginning of the lesson. The students will complete the L(earn) part and the teacher can answer any questions not answered from the W(ant to learn) part provided by students.
Teacher Notes
If you are using a cloud file storage system (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or iCloud), I would recommend having the students create a digital folder for this lesson to save their notes and student work. It will help with organization.
