Lesson Progression
Primary Message: Physical activity is important for strong muscles and healthy bones
Secondary Message: There are many different ways to play outside with friends.
After watching Healthy Hannah’s Healthy Choice Heroes: Let's Go Play, repeat the question asked by Healthy Hannah: What else can you do inside on a rainy day to be physically active? Have kids answer question.
Objective 1: Have students define the following vocabulary words: muscles, bones, endurance, and health-related fitness
Objective 2: Describe how physical activity helps build strong bones and muscles.
Activity: The teacher will go over the information in Physical Activity for Strong bones and Muscles handout. The students will then complete the Physical Activity Everywhere Google Form Quiz. Students can do this individually or in groups. Afterward, discuss any missed questions to review the concepts.
Objective 3: Identify ways to be physically active indoors.
Activity: Indoor Sports. The teacher will ask the students to name different ways and places to be physically active indoors. Based on the students suggestions, try a few activities. For example: walk laps in the hallways, put on music and dance or create a fitness circuit including jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups.
