Lesson Progression
Primary Message: Skim milk is a good source of vitamins and minerals, which are good for healthy bones.
Secondary Message: Soft drinks are not a good choice.
After watching Healthy Hannah’s Healthy Choice Heroes repeat the question asked by Healthy Hannah:
Did you drink your milk today? Poll the class, by raising their hands, how many drank milk that day.

Objective 2: Identify rich sources of calcium.
Activity: Use the information in the Calcium Information (Resource 1) to introduce calcium rich source to the class. Give each group of four children a Sources of Calcium BINGO card. The teacher gives the definition of a calcium rich food and the children must identify the food on their BINGO card. When a group has 4 items in a row, diagonal, horizontal, or vertical they have BINGO. The teacher then asks the group to read off every food that they have placed a chip on. The teacher verifies that each food that the group lists was actually called during the game.

Objective 3: Describe the relationship between calcium and healthy bones.
Activity: Use the information in the Calcium and Healthy Bones Information (Resource 2) to introduce how calcium affects bones to the class. Each child gets a word puzzle and will be given 10 minutes to complete the puzzle. The first child that completes the puzzle wins the game.

Objective 4: Identify the Milk portion of MyPyramid.
Activity: Have the students color the milk portion of MyPyramid blue.
