After watching Healthy Hannah’s Healthy Choice Heroes:Bike for Your Life, repeat the question asked by Healthy Hannah: What activities do you like to do with your friends that keep you physically active and healthy? Have kids answer question
Objective 1: Vocabulary Words
Define the following terms: physical activity and health-related fitness
Objective 2: Identify fun sources of physical activity.
Activity: Charades. The teacher describes what physical activity is and gives some examples of fun things that are considered to be physical activity using the Choose My Plate resources. Next the students will play charades, either with the pre-made charade cards or by using the students’ suggestions to make your own charade cards using 3 x 5 index cards. Have the students take turns acting out the physical activities on the cards as the rest of the class tries to guess which physical activity they are acting out.
Objective 3: Describe the link between physical activity and strong bones.
Activity: Brainstorming/Group Discussion. Ask students to name additional fun things that they do to play. As they come up with ideas, write them on the board. Give the benefits of physical activity. Engage the students in the discussion by asking them what they think the benefits of physical activity are.
Objective 4: Describe the relationship between physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
Activity: Fill In the Blanks Google form. The teacher will provide the class information on why physical activity is important using the Choose my Plate web resource (Students can also visit this website to research the importance together). Then the students will individually or with a group fill out the Fill In the Blanks Google Form.
