From Standards to Success: USHC 2 | Coherent Learning Experience Design Template

Use this planning template to design a 2–3-lesson U.S. History learning experience centered on historical thinking and evidence. Educators begin with a USHC Standard 2 indicator, Historical Thinking Skill (HTS), instructional anchor, and intended cognitive demand, then sequence learning through the Hook --> Explore --> Apply --> Synthesize planning cycle. The template supports alignment among learning targets, inquiry tasks, formative assessment, PLD-informed differentiation, and primary and secondary sources. Educators also design a culminating evidence-centered performance task, establish scoring criteria, plan supports and extensions, and check the overall coherence of the learning experience.
