From Standards to Success: USHC 2 | Coherent Learning Experience Design Exemplar

Explore a completed model of a 2–3-lesson U.S. History learning experience centered on historical thinking and evidence. Using the Missouri Compromise as an instructional anchor, this exemplar demonstrates how educators can sequence learning through the Hook → Explore → Apply → Synthesize planning cycle while aligning learning targets, inquiry tasks, formative assessment, PLD-informed supports, and historical sources. The resource also models a culminating evidence-centered performance task, scoring criteria, and PLD-informed planning that maintain a consistent historical thinking target. Educators can use the exemplar as a reference when designing learning experiences that align instruction, assessment, differentiation, and evidence use with the historical thinking required by a South Carolina U.S. History indicator.
