From Standards to Success: USHC 2 | Coherent Learning Experience Design

Use this application task to design a 2–3 lesson U.S. History learning experience centered on historical thinking and evidence. Educators begin with a USHC Standard 2 indicator and Historical Thinking Skill (HTS), select an appropriate instructional anchor, and sequence learning through the Hook → Explore → Apply → Synthesize planning cycle. The task guides educators in aligning inquiry activities, formative assessment, PLD-informed supports, and historical sources with the intended historical thinking and cognitive demand. Educators also design a culminating evidence-centered performance task, establish scoring criteria, and check for alignment across the learning experience.
