Topiary Garden Tour - Episode 5

Kaltura

One of the oldest sections of Pearl Fryar's garden is anchored around a Christmas tree he replanted in 1982. Success at cultivating the Eastern white pine, a native of the Blue Ridge of South Carolina, led to the next step, to topiary trees such as live oak, a native of the Coastal Plain. Today the topiary garden transitions from trees and plants native to the landscape, to non-native, ornamental plants he has introduced over the years. Wildlife abounds in Pearl's garden, something he attributes to gardening without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. In this video, Pearl gives a tour of his garden, showing off its oldest and newest sections, and a few hidden spots in between.
