Major Patrick Ferguson's Cairn | Curiosity Trek!

Kaltura

Visitors to Kings Mountain National Park may have noticed a grave marker with a massive pile of rocks behind it. What is the story of this unusual monument?

This is the grave of Major Patrick Ferguson, the commander of Loyalist militia forces in the south during the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War. Ferguson was the most prominent British officer killed in South Carolina during the course of the war.

NPS Park Ranger Robert Holmes joins Host Andrew Davis to uncover the background of the Battle of Kings Mountain and why South Carolinians have periodically added stones on top of this grave ever since it was placed there.
