• Sedum Family (Crassulaceae)
• 35 genera and 1,500 species
• Succulent herb or small shrub
• Leaves simple, alternate or opposite, fleshy
• Sepals 4 or 5; petals 4 or 5, free or united, with a scale-like gland at each base
• Tiny fruit pod
• One of the first flowering plants to appear on rock
• Succulent leaves - hold water
• Pink leaves give rock a bluish, pinkish color
• Flowers appear later
• Cultivated as ornamental or succulent novelties, along with Jade Trees and Air Plants
