• Red to red-brown body with olive-brown thorax
• Clear fore wings
• Hind wings clear with dark saddle mark
• Outer boundary jagged
• Veins red even in dark band
• Flies low over water and perches high up on bare branches
• Adult feeds on small flying insects and Naiad eats aquatic insects
• Habitats include broad, slow rivers with thick submerged vegetation
