Wall Ball
Objective: TSWBT use the correct technique for fielding and throwing a ball in a small-sided game during class.
Equipment:
- Wall space with no windows
- Tennis balls
- Cones/poly spots
Cues:
Throwing:
- Side- Turn your body so that your non-throwing shoulder is pointed to the target
- Step- With opposite foot towards the target (If you throw right-handed then step with the left foot)
- Follow through- Throwing arm will come across the body
Fielding:
- Athletic position- Bend your knees
- Alligator
- Bite
How to play: Before the game starts make sure that you talk to the students about how to field and throw a ball. Also, show the students the court boundaries created by the cones or poly spots.
To start the game the students will be spread out within the court boundaries and one student will start with the tennis ball. The student that has the ball will start the game by throwing the tennis ball to the wall. Once the ball hits the wall it must bounce at least once before another student can field the ball. Once another student fields the ball cleanly they will throw it against the wall. This will continue until a student either gets hit with the tennis ball off the wall or doesn’t field the ball cleanly (bobbles or misses the ball). If a student touches the ball without fielding it cleanly, they must run to the wall and touch the wall before another student can grab the tennis ball and throw the ball against the wall. The student that is running towards the wall must touch the wall before the tennis ball hits the wall. If the student does not beat the tennis ball to the wall, they earn a point. The student at the end of the game with the least number of points wins.
