Lesson Progression
- Explain that today’s lesson will be about animals and needs that they have.
- Have students share needs they think animals have.
- Share the KidsECON video 4: Animal Shelter with the class.
- Discuss what an animal shelter is and how there are my types of animals.
- Review the original list of needs and add any new discoveries from the video.
- Discuss what a mammal is and make a list of mammals and other animals.
- Mammals: dogs, cats, rabbit
- Not mammals: birds, fish
- Review what a GOOD and SERVICE are.
- Goods: things that people make or grow to sell to make money. Goods can include food, clothes, or even toys.
- Service: Jobs that people do for others.
- Discuss how Goods and Services can be shown at an animal shelter.
- Animals need lots of care. Animals must be fed food, this is known as a good. Goods cost money.
- Sometimes animals can get sick or they might be hurt and have to see a doctor or a veterinarian helps them. This is a service. Services also cost money.
- Animal shelters are supported by people in the community who volunteer their time and some people give money to help animal shelters.
