Lesson Progression
Introduce the video by preparing the students to learn about needs and wants in the grocery store.
Show KidsECON, Episode 1 - "Grocery Store" for the class (see in the Resource tab).
After watching the episode, consider these discussion questions when talking with your class:
- Does everyone have the same needs and wants?
- Have students think about people that need glasses, hearing aids, and wheelchairs.
- Consider people who have pets vs. people who do not. Do they have the same needs?
- Do we need snow boots in South Carolina? Do people in Alaska need different clothing than we do?
- Do your needs change as you get older? What is something you needed as a baby that you don't need now?
- What is something you used to want that you don't want anymore?
- What would happen if a grocery store closed?
- What happens when people don't have cars and can't get to a grocery store? What if their bus doesn't take them to other stores?
