What is a Webmaster?
Webmasters are responsible for maintaining and managing Web sites for companies. They know how to develop Web pages and understand the technology behind them. Excellent English and proofreading skills are necessary to make sure that the Web site is well written and free of any spelling errors. Webmasters have good layout and design skills, and are able to create a visually attractive Web site that is consistent with the company’s corporate image. A good base in science and mathematics is needed to understand the computer hardware and software that supports the company’s Web site and Internet connection.

Start now to learn the technology behind the Web. As I get older, I’m increasingly convinced this is a job for the young.
What subjects in school will students need to do my job?
Typing, English, Web courses, graphics, computer programming, other computer classes, math, communications, any classes that teach one how to organize, prioritize, communicate, and to work well as a team member.
What I like most about my job?
Learning new skills; working with my colleagues; having a “front row seat” to all the interesting things going on at ETV (by publishing content to scetv.org).
What is the biggest challenge in my job?
Learning new skills. Web technology changes at a rapid pace, and, as I get older, I find it more and more a challenge to keep up; that’s why I say this a perfect job for young folks.
How do you get a job like mine?
Virtually every company and every organization in the modern world has a corporate Web site. Webmaster jobs are plentiful.
