Sherry William likes to tell African folks tales. Many of the stories she tells are not written in Gullah, but she has added that because she grew up in the Low Country of South Carolina where she experienced many dialects. She advises storytellers to select a story they like and know well. If you really like a story, then you can tell it well. Ms. William tells “Mr. Bear and Mr. Rabbit,” using a Gullah dialect. Key points: using storytelling to bring children and books together and what to look for in choosing a story.
