Mr. Pinckney resides on Daufuskie Island, a South Carolina coastal barrier island. On this last sparsely-settled place on the SC coast, he works to preserve the land and culture. His is the author of The Beaufort Chronicles, The Right Side of the River, Blue Roots, and Reefer Moon. In addition, he is senior editor of Sporting Classics Magazine and a regular contributor to other outdoor publications. He was born and raised in the S.C. Lowcountry, educated at USC, and the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. He took off for Alaska at a young age, but never made it! He settled in northern Minnesota where he raised horses and cattle, learned to drive sled dogs, taught school, and wrote grants and newspaper articles. Then he came back to his native state.
