In her interview, Emily Smith Pearce discusses the importance of having an outline, sharing your writing with others, and fitting writing into your daily life. She says that she often thought about writing about far-off places, but that was before she learned you are supposed to write about what you know and “before I learned that my home state was itself a very unique place.” This author of Isabel and the Miracle Baby and Slowpoke grew up in Florence, South Carolina. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.F.A. in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College. Recently, she has lived in Germany with her husband and their two children.
