Odocoileus virginianus
• Important game mammal, but illegal to hunt in wildlife refuge
• Similar to Mule Deer, Elk, Caribou, Moose and Pronghorn
• Large white tail
• Capable of running 56 - 64 kmps (35 - 40 mph) and jumping 9 m (30 ft) horizontally and 2.5 m (8.5 ft) vertically
• Males have antlers
• Breeding season is November - February
• Spotted fawn is camouflaged with stripes down back, white on sides
• Lives to 16 years in wild
• Eats twigs, roots, shrubs, fungi, acorns, grass and herbs
•Habitats include forests, swamps and open bushy areas
