The McIver House | History of SC Slide Collection

The McIver House in Cheraw was the homestead of Henry McIver, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. An "I" house built in the early national style, it is a good example of the houses built in the Upcountry of South Carolina from Orangeburg northwards beginning in the early 19th century. Many houses like it were built in the lower part of the state prior to the Revolution. The joggling board visible on the front porch was a popular entertainment for children.
