The second program in the series of eight one-hour, live-to-tape debates, produced by ETV for the University of South Carolina’s Institute for Southern Studies (ISS) under a grant provided by Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc. is “What Was the Most Influential 20th Century Southern Novel?” Dr. Walter Edgar, Director of the Institute for Southern Studies at the University of South Carolina, is the moderator for the debate. Restoring the time-honored tradition of debating, the program will provide thought- provoking positions to encourage inquiry and discernment. Two distinguished scholars will present different positions with compelling arguments on Southern literature. The topic of the debate is the “most influential Southern novel of the 20th century.”
