This segment describes the relationship that exists between Shaw Air Force Base and the community of Sumter, S.C. and its residents. Col. James Post, Wing Commander, states that they are close friends and neighbors, and they go to school and church together. The community has embraced the team at Shaw and the airmen, which provides a great feeling that when they are gone, your family is being taken care of by a community that is second to none. Former mayor, Steve Creech, states that they are part of our community and that the administrators work together to coordinate local government resources with those of Shaw.
- This indicator was designed to promote inquiry into military and economic policies during World War II, to include the significance of military bases in South Carolina. This indicator was also developed to foster inquiry into postwar economic developments and demographic changes, to include the immigration of Jewish refugees following the Holocaust.
