Savannah Main Panel, Part 4 - Mildred McClain | Sea Change - Episode 4

Kaltura

Mildred McClain, representing the Citizens of Environmental Justice, insists that the vulnerable communities be an integral part of the discussion on solutions to climate change, along with policy changes, programs, and initiatives. The environmental justice communities have played a crucial role in making sure that people from impacted communities are part of the local, and global conversations about climate change. According to McClain, when Hurricane Matthew hit South Carolina, the local communities were not ready for the storm, due to lack of preparedness. This is why the focus on policy changes, and preparedness against infrastructure damage, and health disparities, are critical to making positive impacts to saving communities suffering from climate change.
