Dr. Robert Duncan Bass (1904-1983) was born in Scranton, South Carolina (Florence County). He received degrees from the University of South Carolina and became one of the nation's leading scholars of the American Revolution in South Carolina. Dr. Bass taught at USC, the US Naval Academy, Furman, Limestone, and Erskine.
