Petroglyphs - Art & Nature | A Natural State - Episode 4

Kaltura

Rock art at the Hagood Mill site is open to many interpretations. Is the imagery sacred, documentation of historic events, part of a simple amusement, or of a larger pictographic language? The answer may never be known.

Tommy has noticed that most of the petroglyph sites in South Carolina are located in areas with unique natural features. The Hagood Mill petroglyph site is a few yards from a clear stream, fish, waterfalls and swimming holes. Tommy theorizes that prehistoric humans, like modern humans, used such natural areas for recreation, and found artistic or spiritual inspiration in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
