All About Bats, Part 1 | Making It Grow

Kaltura

Amanda McNulty of the Clemson Extension hosts this edition of Making It Grow. This episode is all about the bat- an often-misunderstood animal. Jennifer Kindel, a wildlife biologist at the Department of Natural Resources speaks with Amanda about the connection between bats and Coronavirus.

There are over 1400 species of bats spread throughout the world, and 14 different species are found in the palmetto state! From fruit eaters and “flying foxes” to insect eaters. Bats happen to play important roles in the growth of plants- acting as pollinators and seed dispersers. Even vampire bats have their uses! The anti-coagulant found in vampire bats is useful in treating victims of stroke.
