Eliminating Disease Through Education | Periscope

Today, the World Health Organization works to eliminate diseases such as AIDS. Like smallpox, AIDS is an epidemic, or incredibly widespread disease.

Through WHO, the United Nations provides education that can prevent the spread of AIDS. The U.N. also provides medicine to help people suffering from AIDS stay alive. There is no cure for AIDS, so the United Nations also promotes research that may one day result in the elimination of the disease.

For a United Nations book, students in Peru drew comic strips about AIDS. Translated into English from Spanish, the book is titled, "I Care...Do You?."
