Hoop Hop Showdown
Objectives: TSWBT play a game that requires them hop from hoop to hoop as quickly as they can
Equipment: Hula hoops, gym space
How to play: Separate students into two separate teams and have them get in a line. When the game starts the first person in line for each team will begin hopping from one hula hoop to the next. The two students will hop until they meet each other towards the middle. When they meet, each student should have their own hula hoop. If they both land in the same hula hoop, have one-person step back so that they are in separate hoops.
Once they are in separate hula hoops, they will play rock, paper, scissors. Make sure to explain to the class that both people playing should say “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Shoot”. Each student will throw down their choice on the word “shoot”. The student that lost will step out of the hula hoop and return to the back of their teams’ line. As soon as the student that loses steps out of the hula hoop, the next person in line on their team will begin hopping. The winner will continue to hop through the hoops until they meet the next person from the other team and they will play rock, paper, scissors.
The goal of the game is for a student to reach the last hula hoop. When one team reaches the last hoop, they get a point. If a student is in the next to last hoop and wins the game of rock, paper, scissors, they automatically get to step into the last hoop. If a student wins, they AT LEAST have to move up one hoop.
Extensions:
- Create a different pattern with the hula hoops
- Mix up teams (Boys vs Girls)
- Add/remove hula hoops
