Christmas Matching Game

Objective: TSWBT work together as a team in order to find their teams matching cards

Set-up: Students will be in groups of 3-5 sitting behind a cone on the outside of the basketball court. Each team will receive one card. Each team should have a different picture on their card. The teacher will scatter the rest of the cards around the gym floor face-up. After all cards are scattered around the gym floor, the teacher will cover every card up with a poly spot or anything that covers the picture up.

Equipment: Printed out cards (recommended to laminate), poly spots, cones

How to play: Once students are separated into teams, they should be given a card that is different from the rest of the teams. There should be 10 copies of each picture and should be cut out so that there is one picture on each card. Once the teams are given a card, the rest of the cards should be spread out inside of the basketball court with a poly spot covering the card. The goal of the game is for each team to find the other 9 cards that match their card. Once a team has found all of their cards, they win. When the game begins, one student will run out and pick a poly spot. Once they pick a spot they should bend over and peak under the poly spot to see if the card under the spot matches their teams card. If it does match, they will pick up the card and take it back to their team. If the card under the spot does not match, they will cover it back up with the poly spot and then go to the back of their teams line and it will be the next persons turn. Emphasize to the students that they do not want anyone else seeing the card under the spot that they are looking at, because if a team sees their card under that spot they will know exactly where to go. So, it is very important that the students peak under the spots instead of lifting them all the way up off the ground where everyone can see what is underneath. Also make sure that if the spot that they chose does not have a matching card, that the students leave that card there and cover it back up with the poly spot.
