Digital Traditions - Teacher Resources

About The Materials

The Educator Guides listed below were published to introduce teachers and students in the K-12 community to some of the rich South Carolina folklife traditions. These resources are designed to facilitate discussion, research and critical investigation into relevant subjects - traditional arts of all kinds.  Sweetgrass basketry, gospel music, family celebrations, and alkaline-glazed pottery are only a few of the folk traditions with deep roots in South Carolina.

The hope is that educators using these resources will find useful details and an overview of the folklife subjects presented, additional resources for further research, and practical classroom activities that will encourage the development of critical research skills among students of various age groups and grade levels.  Out intent is for teachers and students alike to glean a deeper appreciation and understanding of southern folklife traditions and have greater awareness of the traditions present in their local and regional community.
