State of the Arts - Materials | A Natural State - Episode 7

Kaltura

The physical qualities of natural materials inform Brian Rust's work. Wood is media that he carves and manipulates to a degree, while still allowing the material to "speak directly" to the viewer. Rust believes wood is "just as beautiful when it is rotting as when it is growing." Granite is a material chosen for its resistance to sculpting or carving. Materials such as granite insist that the artist work with the material's natural attributes.
