Mays continued on with his career, meeting and advising with other world leaders. He was appointed by President John F. Kennedy to serve on the commission on civil rights, and played a role in race relations in the World Council of Churches. Mays was involved in both the national and world levels. As president of Morehouse College, Mays traveled the world, giving speeches on the evils of segregation.
In 1966, when the Braves baseball team moved to Atlanta, it would be the first time a major league team moved so far south. Mays helped a great deal in helping the team make a smooth transition.
