Native American Heritage Month is celebrated from November 1 through November 30 each year. We recently added content to the Native American Heritage collection.

The Ring People

Subjects: Social Studies, SC History, Native Americans, Science, Archaeology

Forty centuries ago, Native Americans left their mark on the landscape of coastal South Carolina. Today, archaeologists from SCDNR, a dozen universities and the National Park Service search for clues to our earliest-known coastal dwellers. The story takes viewers to remote sites as scientists discover the ancient South Carolinians who built monumental rings of shell. Learn More

Let’s Go! - Catawba Cultural Center

Subjects: Social Studies, SC History, Native Americans

Did you know the Catawba Indian Nation is the only federally recognized reservation in the state of South Carolina? The Catawba people have lived in the Piedmont region for over six thousand years, and today occupy about three thousand acres in Rock Hill, S.C. Take a virtual field trip by exploring the 3D VR of the Catawba Cultural Center on your desktop or with VR goggles. Learn More

 

Career Explorations!

Knowitall brings an abundance of career education and job shadowing videos to your computer, tablet or mobile device! These videos provide insight into a wide array of professions, as students plan the pathway that best suits them.

Career Clusters connect school work with the knowledge and skills needed for success in college and careers. Each Career Cluster identifies pathways from secondary school to two- and four-year colleges, graduate school, and the workplace. These videos will motivate students to work harder to achieve their career goals. Please choose from any of the Career Clusters that interest you.

November 20 is Universal Children's Day

The goal of the United Nations’ Universal Children’s Day is to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide. We want to highlight a recently added series, Meet the Helpers and introduce SCETV’s mascot with Exercise with Smart Cat.

Our Veterans Day Collection provides several series that commemorate the veterans who fought for our freedom.

 

What’s New on Knowitall.org

During 2019, Knowitall acquired and created content with both new and old partners. This month, we’re delighted to highlight a new video series from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and author interviews from a recent South Carolina State Library event.

November Honoree - Henrietta Snype

Subjects: Career Education, SC History

A true artist and craftswoman, Henrietta Snype is a master sweetgrass basket weaver and educator. She is devoted to the education and revival of a culture rich in tradition. Born and raised in Mount Pleasant, S.C., she learned how to weave baskets at the age of seven from her mother, Mary Mazyck, and grandmother. At the age of 17, Snype graduated from high school and went on to pursue her education and career in business. Read More 

The Planter at the Gate

Subjects: Social Studies, SC History, Civil War

During the Civil War, the month of June of 1862 was a pivotal moment in American history. Learn about the Battle of Secessionville, the Union’s attempt to capture Charleston and the Southern planter, Colonel Thomas Gresham Lamar in The Planter at the Gate. Author Interviews from Read Eat Grow

Subjects: Career Education, English Language Arts, Social and Emotional Learning

Knowitall had the opportunity to interview Chef Edward Lee and children’s book author Lizzy Rockwell, both keynote speakers at the S.C. State Library’s Read Eat Grow event. Chef Lee talks about his career, food and culture during our interview, while author Rockwell takes us inside her life as an illustrator and discusses the importance of books for social and emotional learning.
