Volleyball (K-2nd)

Objectives: TSWBT hit the beach balls over the net using one of four types of hitting

Equipment: Beach balls, volleyball net

Ways to hit the ball:

  1. Two hands overhead
  2. One hand overhead
  3. One hand underhand
  4. Forearm pass or bump

How to play:

For this activity separate the class into two groups with each group being on different sides of the net. Talk to the students about the 4 different types of hits in volleyball. Two hands overhead is similar to a ‘set’ in volleyball while the one hand overhead is similar to a serve. The one hand underhand pass is similar to an underhand serve in volleyball and lastly, the forearm pass or the ‘bump’ is used in volleyball to set-up for a spike. Explain to students that they should work on all types of hits during class. Once the teacher is done explaining the types of hits and the rules, they will pass out 5-8 beach balls. Students will begin hitting back and forth attempting to get the ball over the net using one of the four types of hits.

Rules:

  1. No sliding
  2. No fighting over beach balls
  3. No touching the net
  4. No kicking the beach balls
