Clap when beat gets fast
Warm up- Students will be placed on a poly spot in the gym and will stay there for the whole lesson. Teacher will introduce the song to the students while performing the whole dance as a demonstration. After the demonstration have the students find the beat of the song by clapping to the beat of the song while attempting to count the beat (counts of 8) out loud with the teacher. Teacher may do this multiple times until the majority of the class is on beat.
Task 1: Teacher will go over the cues for the sidestep squat (Step, Squat, step up) as well as demonstrate to the students. Teacher will demonstrate the steps as well as go over cues for the second step which is 8 jumping jacks (Out, in).
Intratask: For this the teacher will have students try all steps learned so far (side step and squat, jumping jacks) without music on beat/rhythm with the counts (teacher will count out loud).
Refinement: Make sure that the students squat for the sidestep squat as well as stay on beat with the music like they did during the warm up
Task 2: Teacher will go over the cues for the back step with the right and left foot (right, behind, right, together) as well as demonstrate to the students. Teacher will also show the 4th step of the dance which is a basic jump (on both feet) forward. Teacher will demonstrate the steps as well as go over cues (Jump, Jump, Jump).
Intratask: For this the teacher will have students try all steps learned so far (side step and squat, jumping jacks, back steps, jump forward) without music on beat/rhythm with the counts (teacher will count out loud).
Refinement: Make sure for the back step that the students step back with their right foot first.
Task 3: Teacher will go over the next steps for the dance which is an 8 count of jumping in place (jump) and alternating kicks as well as demonstrate both to the students. For this task the teacher will have the students perform the jump in place (jump) and alternating kicks (right, left, right, left) on beat/rhythm with the counts (teacher will count out loud).
Intratask: For this the teacher will have students try all steps learned so far (sidestep and squat, jumping jacks, back steps, jump forward, jump in place, alternating kicks) without music on beat/rhythm with the counts (teacher will count out loud).
Task 4: Teacher will go over the final steps for the dance which is an 8 count of side shuffles to the left and the right (right, together, right) as well as demonstrate both to the students. After the shuffle’s students will clap with the fast beat.
Intratask- - For this the teacher will have students try all steps learned so far (side step and squat, jumping jacks, back steps, jump forward, jump in place, alternating kicks, shuffles, claps) without music on beat/rhythm with the counts (teacher will count out loud).
Refinement- When students get done clapping they will repeat the steps from the beginning
Task 5: Teacher and students will perform the whole dance with the music while staying on beat
