Steal the Flags
Objectives: TSWBT successfully perform different locomotor activities and exercises while playing a game that involves strategy and hand-eye coordination
Equipment: 2 hula hoops, Flag football belts
Set-up: Separate the class into two teams, one team is on one half of the playing area. Each student will receive a flag football belt that has 2 or 3 flags attached to it. One hula hoop will be placed on the end line on each side of the playing area.
Rules: Players will be trying to pull the flags from the opposing teams’ belts while trying to keep their own flags from being pulled by the other team. When a player pulls a flag from the opponent’s team, they will take it and place it in their team’s hula hoop. If a student loses all of their flags from their belt, they will still be in the game and are allowed to continue to attempt to pull flags from their opponent’s belts. This game is played until only one person from either team is the last one with a flag still attached to the belt. Once the game is over, have everyone reattach their flags and play a new game.
Modifications:
- Have students that lose all of their flags perform an exercise outside of the playing area in order to earn back either one flag or all of their flags
- Instead of having students run during the game, you can have them perform different locomotor movements such as skipping, galloping or hopping.
