Steal the Cheese

Equipment:

  • 2 hula hoops
  • Pinnies (if needed)
  • Cheese (bean bag, foam ball, or anything else that you might find appropriate)

Setup: Place the “cheese” in the middle of the court. Have two hula hoops about 10 feet away from the “cheese” on either side (see resources)

How to play: Students will be separated into two teams. Once teams are picked have each team stand on the baseline on opposite ends of the court. Once students are in position number each student so that there is a corresponding number on the opposite team. To start the game, the teacher will yell out a random number. The students that were given that number will then run from the baseline to the middle of the court and try to grab the “cheese” before the opposing team member does. The first student to pick up the “cheese” will attempt to run and put it in the opposing team’s hula hoop before the other student can tag them. If they are tagged before they get to the hula hoop they must drop the “Cheese” where they were tagged and hop back in their team’s line. Once they are back in the line the teacher will yell out another random number and the game will continue. 1 point will be awarded every time the “cheese” is placed into the opposing team’s hula hoop. You can play the game for a certain amount of time or to a certain number for a team to win.
