Speed Ball
Objective: TSWBT throw, catch, and dodge is this fun version of dodgeball
Equipment: Foam dodgeballs, Gym space
Set-up: Separate students into two teams with one team on each side of the half court line
How to play: When the game starts, students will begin throwing at players on the other side of the gym. The goal of the game is to get as many students out as possible by hitting them from the chest down. If a player gets out they will walk to the side and wait until they are allowed to go back in. The fun thing about this game is that instead of waiting until their team only has one player remaining, every 2 or 3 minutes, the teacher will blow the whistle and everyone may reenter the game.
Ways to get out:
- If the ball hits you from the chest down
- If you throw a ball and someone from the other team catches it in the air
- If you throw the ball and hit someone in the head/face, then you are out and the person that got hit stays in the game
- If you step over the center line
- If you attempt to catch a ball and it falls to the floor
Often asked questions:
- If a ball is thrown, hits a student, and then is caught by another student then the person that got hit is out and the person that threw the ball is out
- If a ball is thrown, hits a student, and then hits another student without being caught then both of the students that got hit are out
- If a ball is thrown and a student attempts to catch the ball and then the ball hits their face, that person is out because they attempted to catch it
- If a ball grazes your fingertips or body, you are still out
- You can block a throw with a ball as long as it doesn’t touch your body
- If the ball hits the floor or the wall then it is considered a dead ball (does not count if it hits someone)
