Scooters
Objective: TSWBT complete different ‘levels’ of activities on the scooters safely and effectively
Equipment: Scooters, gym space
Set-up: Have students separated into different groups. Each group will have one scooter and will be in a line. Each time it is a student’s turn on the scooter they will travel down and around a cone and then return back to their group.
Levels:
Level 1- Students will travel forward on their bottom
Level 2- Students will travel backwards on their bottom
Level 3- Students will travel on their knees and must use their hands to help them move. Explain to the students to be careful not to put their hands and fingers in front of the wheels.
Level 4- Students will travel forwards on their stomachs. They may use their hands and feet in order to help them move
Level 5- Students will travel forwards or backwards with only their feet on the scooter. This is similar to a crab walk
Level 6- Students will place their hands inside of the hand protector and will be in a pushup position and will walk/run with the scooter on the ground
Level 7- Students will be given a pool noodle. One student will be sitting on the scooter while another student will be standing. The student standing will hold one end of the noodle while the person sitting will hold the other end of the noodle. The student standing will begin pulling the student sitting by walking. No one should be running during this activity.
Variation:
- You can have each level as a relay race
Safety:
- Hands should be inside of the hand protector at all times
- Students with longer hair should either put it in a pony tail or tuck it in the back of their shirts so that it does not get caught in the wheels.
- If a student falls off the scooter they should slowly get back on
