Scooter Soccer

Objective: TSWBT play a game of scooter soccer by balancing and moving themselves around on scooters as well as using kicking skills to move a yoga ball

Equipment: Scooters, Yoga Ball, Gym Space

Set-up: Students will be separated into two teams. Each team will start on opposite sides of the gym against a wall.

How to play: Students will be playing a game of scooter soccer that requires them to move around on scooters and attempting to move a yoga ball. To start the game, all students will be against their team’s wall and seated on their scooters. The yoga ball will be placed in the middle of the gym. When the teacher blows the whistle, students may race towards the center and kick the yoga ball. The object of the game is to kick the ball and score a goal by getting the ball to hit the wall on the other teams’ side of the gym. Teacher should explain that there are two jobs that you can do in scooter soccer (you can do both). Offensive players can move around and attempt to kick the ball towards their goal. Defensive players can stay back towards their own goal and defend it from the other team.  If a player breaks the rules of the game, they pick their scooter up and walk to the ‘penalty box’ (see rules below). Students in the penalty box will remain there for 2 minutes. When a team scores a goal, the student’s will return to their side of the gym and wait on the teachers whistle to begin the next round.

                Rules:

  • If a player uses their arms or hands they walk to the penalty box.
  • If a player kicks the ball by lifting their bottoms off of their scooter they receive a penalty
  • Student’s can use their head or body to move the ball
  • Students cannot grab or hold another player
