Lesson Progression
- Begin the lesson by reading the story ‘Stuff! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ by Steven Kroll
- The teacher will go through the PowerPoint with students.
- Students will then watch the video Cyberchase| Reduce, Reuse, Recycle on PBS Learning Media. The students will discuss their thoughts on the video in small groups and then share aloud with the rest of the class.
- The teacher and students will create a mini recycling center. This can include bins for metal, plastic, paper, and glass. The teacher will explain to students that they will be collecting items made from these materials to recycle in weeks to come. The teacher should have a few items to place in the bins at that time. They should discuss the items and which bins they should be placed in and why.
