Pin Defense

Objective:

• TSWBT use the correct throwing technique in order to knock the other teams' pins down in a small sided game throughout the class.
• TSWBT use cooperation and teamwork throughout the class during a game called “Pin Defense”

Equipment: Hula Hoops, Bowling Pins, and soft dodgeballs

Set up: Students will be divided into 2 teams with each team on either side of the half-court line. Each team will start with 5 bowling pins and 5 hula hoops. They will place the hoops and the pins wherever they would like on their side of the court with each pin going in one hula hoop. The teacher will place 5-6 soft dodgeballs on the centerline (half-court line) before each game.

How to play: The goal of this game is to knock down all of the other teams bowling pins by throwing the soft dodgeballs while protecting your own pins by blocking the other teams' throws. Each team will be designated one side of the court with all students starting at their backline before each game. When the teacher blows the whistle the students for both teams will rush towards the dodgeballs at the half-court line and begin throwing at the other team’s pins.  The team that knocks down all of the opponent's pins first wins the game. If a pin is knocked over by either a ball or if a student runs into it, then that pin is out of the game. Students may not pick a pin back up if it has been knocked down. Students may also defend their own pins by blocking the balls with their bodies or by catching the opponent's throw. Students are NOT out if they get hit with a ball or if they block a ball.

            Penalties: Students will be given a 30-second penalty where they will stand on the sidelines if they:

1. Cross the centerline
2. Steps into the hoop in order to protect a pin
3. Holds more than one ball at a time
