Parachute Activities
Objective: TSWBT work together to complete different activities using the parachute during class.
Equipment: Parachute, Small foam or yarn balls
Rules:
- Do not touch the parachute unless given permission
- Do not walk on parachute
- Do not grab the handles on the parachute. Grab the actually parachute
Activity:
- Small waves (Sitting Down)
- Big waves (Sitting Down)
- Small waves (Standing)
- Big Waves (Standing)
- Up (above head), Take 2 steps in, take steps out
- Give each student a number. There should be two of each number. Ex. If you have 24 students you will number from 1 to 12 with two students being the same number. For this activity, the teacher will say “up”, and students will raise the parachute above their heads. Teacher will then call one number and the students with that number will run underneath the parachute and switch spots. Do this for all numbers
- Cat and mouse- For this game students will be sitting on the ground. The teacher will call one number and have those students raise their hands. The teacher will tell one student that they are the cat and the other student that they are the mouse. The mouse’s job is to crawl underneath the parachute and try to make it to the other side without being tagged by the cat. The cat’s job is to crawl on top of the parachute and try to find the mouse that is crawling underneath and tag them. Everyone else will be making waves with the parachute to try and conceal the mouse’s location under the parachute.
- Popcorn- Start with players holding the chute stretched out. Throw as many bean bags or yarn balls as you can find on to the chute. Then see how quickly you can bounce them off without letting go of the chute. Afterwards, have half of the players trying to bounce the bean bags off and half trying to keep them on.
- Washing Machine- Half of the players are the 'washing machine' while the other half are the dirty washing. The 'washing' players sit under the parachute. Players give the parachute a good shake to mix in the washing powder. Washing machine players run around in a circle turning the parachute. Rinse (shake) turn (circle) again. Shake and then dry in up and down in big movements. Repeat - reversing roles of children.
