King and Queen of the Court

Objectives: TSWBT work together as a team to get the ball over the net and into the other team’s court

Equipment: Beach Balls, Volleyball net, polyspots

Set-up: Teacher will place 3 poly spots at the back of one side of the net. Students will be placed in lines behind each poly spot. One team of 3 will start on the king/queen side of the net and another team of 3 will be on the opposite side of the net.

How to play: The goal of the game is to become king/queen of the court and to stay there as long as possible. Students will be in teams of 3 (teams might be different each time if there is an odd number of students). One team will start the game as king/queen and another group will start on the opposite side of the king/queen. To start the game the teacher will have the beach ball and will gently set it up to the king/queen side of the court. They’re job is to try to hit the ball to the opponent’s side of the net in order to get them out and stay in the game while their opponents are trying to get the king/queen team out. If kings/queens lose, then they will go to the back of their lines and the team that won will cross under the net and will become king/queen.

                Rules:

  • Can only have 3 hits before the ball has to go over the net
  • If the ball touches the line, it is considered in
  • If the ball goes out of bounds, the team that hit it is out
  • If a player touches the net with their body, that team is out
  • The ball can touch the net and must be played if it goes over
  • No double touches
  • If a team fails to get the ball over the net, they are out
  • If the ball lands on the ground inside of a team’s court, they are out
