Bullseye Chipping
Objective: TSWBT use the correct chipping technique while trying to chip the golf balls into a target area in a small-sided game during class.
Equipment: Foam or plastic golf balls, rope, golf clubs, chipping mats (if indoors), scoresheets
Chipping Cues:
- Place your feet a little closer than shoulder-width.
- Place the golf ball a little closer to your back foot than your front foot.
- Keep your hands in front of the ball on the backswing and follow-through.
- Swing back to knee level and follow through to knee level also.
- Make contact at the bottom of the golf ball allowing for it to travel up.
Setup: For this game, you will need 3 sets of rope or something that you can create a large circle with. There will be 3 sections within the main target which are the bullseye, inner ring, and outer ring. Students will have a partner and will be lined up towards the target. See setup example under resources for a visual.
How to play: Students will be in partners and will have one club, 5 golf balls, a chipping mat, and a scorecard for each set of partners. All students will be in a linear formation with one of the partners hitting at a time. One student will be the hitter and the other partner will be the scorer who will be standing at least ten feet behind the hitter. The hitter will hit all 5 golf balls in a row while the other partner will be scoring each shot based on where the ball ends up. After everyone is done hitting their golf balls the partner that just hit will retrieve 5 golf balls from the target zone. Once the students have 5 golf balls, they will return to their chipping mat and place the balls on the mat. After all the students get back, the students will switch roles and repeat the process. Students will do this for 2 or 3 rounds and then switch partners.
Scoring: The students will be scored on where the ball stops. NOT where it lands. Students will receive 5 points if the ball ends up in the bullseye, 3 points if it lands in the inner circle, and 1 point if it lands in the outer circle. The students will receive 0 points if the ball does not land in any circle.
Safety:
- The partner that is not hitting must stand on a polyspot at least 10 feet behind the hitter
- Make sure the students do not retrieve their golf balls until everyone in the class is done hitting their golf balls.
