Basketball Relay
Objectives: TSWBT correctly dribble and shoot a basketball in a small-sided game during the class
Equipment:
- Basketballs
- Basketball goal
- Cones
Warm-up: Have students warm up by passing a basketball back and forth with each other at about 10 feet. Students may dribble a couple of times before passing the basketball back.
How to play: Separate students into two or three teams depending on class size. Each team will start on a baseline and will be lined up. The first person on each team will have a basketball. On the teacher's whistle, the students with the basketball will dribble all the way across the court to the other basketball goal. Once they reach the goal they will shoot until they make a shot. Once they successfully make a shot, they will dribble the ball back to the next person on their team. While dribbling, if they lose their ball or pick up their dribble, they will have to start all over again.
Alternatives:
- Have students dribble with one hand on the way to the goal and with the other hand back towards their team
- Have students only dribble with their right or left hands
- Create a zig-zag pattern with cones where the students will have to dribble in and out of the cones
