This lesson is a project that allows the students to experiment and express their ideas in different ways in order to advocate against tobacco use.

Lesson Progression
Scenario: Pretend you work for a company in South Carolina where the health insurance costs are steadily increasing because most of the employees use tobacco. You have been selected by the company's wellness team to try and lower the rates of tobacco use among employees by pitching a promotion and/or advertisement to the company (our class). The company's wellness team has given you a $1,000 budget in order to achieve the goal. A few options that you could choose from include:
- T-shirts
- Brochure
- Powerpoint
- Commercial/video
- Bulletin Board/Poster Ad
- Interactive board game or activity (be creative)
- Plan out a smoke-free event
- Play, skit, song, rap, etc.
- Article for the newspaper
- If you have another idea just ask the teacher!
- The best pitch will receive extra credit
Your pitch/advertisement MUST include:
- 5 facts/points about tobacco
- Must advocate AGAINST tobacco
- Be creative and organized
- Pictures pertaining to the subject
When presenting your pitch/advertisement to the class you should:
- Explain what your pitch is, how you will use it, and why it will work
- Must describe how you spent your budget money ($1,000)
- Must have a work cited page
